Members of Concrete Discussion Group (CDG) plan
arts-related events in the defunct subway tunnels of
Rochester, NY. The mission of CDG is to promote
conversations about unused or under-used urban spaces,
and to think of alternative ways to occupy those
spaces. Several members of CDG previous participated
in Revolution Now!, (February, 2006). CDG draws
inspiration from the way that Revolution Now!
appropriated under-used urban spaces for a creative
purposes. CDG works with local artists and musicians
to foster an ongoing engagement with downtown
Rochester.
We invite a broad audience into the discussion about
downtown Rochester though participating in CDG events,
planning, or creative contributions. The upcoming CDG
event will include music and art that directly relates
the subway tunnels. Some ideas include: the
subterranean atmosphere of the tunnels, the material
waste of a network of un-used and under-used tunnels
in Rochester and/or the people who do use or inhabit
the tunnels. More details about the event will be
available as they occur.
We are actively soliciting artists, musicians and
creative thinkers who would like to participate in our
ongoing discussion.
An upcoming event is scheduled for Friday April 6, 2007.
